The script for Vlog (Malala)

One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world

People like me every morning is a struggle to get out of bed, and yet another struggle to get to school. The biggest struggle I face in a day is maybe a teacher yelling at me or a fail mark that might set me back a year. Throughout out my days, I walk with my head held high because I’m proud I’m a woman and I can go study whatever I like, I can say whatever I like and no one is going to stop me. Some Proud Maltese Woman can be viewed at high platforms and are even Mentors nowadays. Yet why do I feel so much guilt? After reading such a story I Can’t help but feel guilty, this isn’t because I’m not womanly enough or that we haven’t come far in the world but because my part of the world might have made it but other parts of the world haven’t, Therefore how can I stand proud as equalist when I know as a woman the rights I got might not be practised everywhere.  Why as a woman after reading such a book should i be proud to know that today I skipped school but Malala didn’t have the same luxury knowing tomorrow she will be allowed to learn but rather tomorrow if she tries yet again she might be killed for being a woman who wants to learn while in

Malta nearly a fifth of this country’s youth leave school at form 5, we have some of the highest rates in Malta of people who voluntarily leave school. The best Part is that any girl in Malala’s position would have loved to take that day of school I missed. Therefore Grab a copy of Malala’s book read it and then together lets help keep kids in school and teach them the importance of education.

there are alot of movies that use these techinques or break them to enchance and improve their shot for example in Mr.Robot they give him extra headroom to show you that he is lonely and anxious. they don’t always break they sometimes always like to not have any rules for composition

 extra headroom and noseroom.

although there are still media forms that follow composition, like for example in all the kill bill by Quentin Tarantino generally has good composition because it helps with the follow of action the movie needs.

Task 2:Local Women Take School For Granted!?!

The Idea

After much thought I’ve come to one conclusion, I have a point of view and I want to share it. The Book ‘Malala’ speaks out about a girl who has suffered and fought so much for education. just to attend a lesson… fought for feminism… fought for the right to study, yet locally there are women who are leaving school voluntarily. Which is why I am going to be writing a journalistic piece to compare and contrast the angle between how a girl like Malala fought for the right to study while in Malta women; myself included are taking our freedom. Our education for granted. Why is that? Why are still a percentage of Maltese women leaving education behind rather than studying? I decided to write this piece practically because my blood began to boil.

I feel that this book changes your perspective, it makes you more grateful for the fact that I have the liberty to do this assignment without fear or hesitation.  Which is why I intend to open the minds of my peers, friends, colleagues and family members who are women and have lost either sight or are taking this liberty for granted.

Apart from this I will be adding 2-5 photos to aid the piece and help deliver the message or the interpretation rather of what I’ve gather from the book. I intend to do this by taking photos of either empty classrooms with  signs saying girls aren’t allowed or if I manage to take photos of women who have taken education for granted and was an early school leaver if I manage to find any I would love to add them to my piece or another form of visual aid posters on the matter to help strengthen the journalistic article. I feel this will give a sort of handmaid’s tale twist where I show an alternative to what we are taking for granted locally.

Contingency Plan if needed to make more interesting or to strengthen the argument article.

  • Add case studies to reason out why people mainly women in Malta are taking education for granted. (Only works if I manage to get people to cooperate.)
  • Add questionnaire to see if locals would change their mind after hearing Malala’s story and now do not take their liberty of education for granted.
  • A vlog to have a different way of strengthen the article or to add flair and make a vlog for the conclusion.

Equipment list

  • Laptop
  • Pen
  • Journal
  • DSLR
  • Tripod
  • Poster/signs saying girls aren’t allowed.

Location Scouting

  • Café (to brainstorm and work on article)
  • Schools for photography purposes.

The Godfather

The Baptism Scene

The Godfather is a popular film which was released on March 14 in the year 1972. It has an amazing rating of 9.2 out of 10 on IMDB. In the scene of above we can see the mafia caption Michael who is baptizing his baby and at the same time, we can see his people killing people so in this case, we have a parallel montage.

A parallel montage is when the editor cuts from one action to the another. This gives the viewer a adrenaline because usually one thinks of a baptism which is something so peaceful and at the same time seeing a shooting. One can also notice that while the killing was going on in the background we can still hear the church song in the background which makes it tenser. When we hear the priest say “padre fili spiritu sancti” which means Father of the Holy, one can see the director cutting to the people that where killed.

Comparing Mundane Objects to Culture

Uniform Character Description (class attempt):

Uniform is a very Specific Unique person who’s personality forms from being vain, confident and wanting to follow  a trend to feel part of the crowd to being cheery, patriotic, neat and well put-together although at times, uniform has a side that’s quite ironed out if you ask me and last but not least practical.

Comparing Mundane Objects to society.

Drop by drop weight drops on to the material and it rushes through the streets. this mundane object is no other than an umbrella which can be as plain as black and white or even have some colour. The Umbrellas stands to represent someone and can be in a positive way, say maybe the person is very extroverted and has no problem holding it. In today’s society this Umbrella faces as a label. this Umbrella is heavy rather then light an practical.

Constantly there above my head, meant to shelter me from the storm, yet I feel so enclosed none the less. This Umbrella above my head in society might be there to have an positive effect with is there to show people my colours… what makes me… How I look from the outside. However to me it  serves as nothing more then a label.. people generalizing my capabilities. I sometimes look at the world around me and i see people trying to fit one or more under the same umbrella, whether because of Gender, Ethnicity or Educations and i wonder to myself isn’t there aren’t enough umbrellas clearly you should throw them all away and just walk in the rain?

My Umbrella at times might describe in many ways but it also hides the drops of knowledge and culture that shape me. People tend to generalize and label one way but they don’t notice sometimes that all there seeing is the material and that its just and umbrella and there is so much more meaning to technical form behind how the umbrella stands. I get the point society is trying to make.. trying to give us umbrellas so we can try and understand one another and be able to not face a storm unprotected.. However these umbrellas aren’t just any umbrellas anymore but they are Stereotypes. They define even to what Nationality I am.. this should not be the case.

There shouldn’t be any umbrellas. Through culture and travel i have learned that I as a Maltese christian have more in common with A British Muslim then someone of the same descent as mine. In Europe especially there is the concept of the EU which is great, all these umbrellas different colours side by side respecting one another. Although I sometimes wonder if there the new Manufacturer of umbrellas i say this because there is some way still labels in between although they respect one another true they are also making sure to always produce one?

Culture?

Culture is an Accumulation of knowledge, experience, beliefs, values, attitudes, meaning and so much more. Culture is a form of human definition. Every human grows in a different culture, while i grew up in a Malta raised one way someone else is in Paris being brought up another way. To me culture is our norm and to others its something to try and understand. You and I form culture because a lot of the time culture can be just a trend someone created and it got turned into something cultural locally or internationally. The word in itself ‘culture’ comes from the french term which deprives from the Latin word “Colere” this means to help grow and tend to the earth or cultivation and nurture.

Zooming in even future into defining Culture, what excatly is the cultural space? well the cultural space is the treatre, the church, the club, the art galley, education, art and etc.. This means that there are different represented cultures with in those spaces. Take a club for example it has its own rules and own fashion.. your definitely not gonna wear what you wear to a club to Church no because then church serves as a different culture space. This gives a community meaning of culture where you all unite under one cultural space together.

Diving into further then cultural space what is space? well there are different types of spaces that go hand in hand with culture specifically home space and away space. Home space is our identity it was we have culturally, like how in Malta its a norm to talk with our hands and whole bodies rather then just our lips. while in France or Spain usually  you can barely keep up with the speed of their tone. While Away space is alienated space, meaning culture we might not understand of overseas. For example stereotypes most of them deprive from a time where american media would create them and this was because in the past not a lot of Americans would make it over the pond or would have an agenda against say a European country, so in the media they would create a stereotype of what they thought people of that country where like. there for to the American’s they had an alienated identity of what Europe contributed to them in some case true culture of Europe but in other cases false.

Raymond Williams was a welsh critique who defined an analysis of culture in 3 different categories

  1. Ideal’ which means the process or state of human perfection in terms of specific or universal terms and values.
  2. documentary’ which means where human thought and experience are recorded by imaginary and intellect work.
  3. Social’   which means to be culturally defining a specific or particular way of life.
